In this course, you will learn more about the night sky. We will have a look at what is beyond the bounds of our atmosphere. By the time you are finished with this course, you will be able to understand what a star is, how planets are formed, and what the next missions beyond Earth’s atmosphere entail. There will be three modules in the course: Module one: Zoom in on planets
Together with the resident Astronomer, you will get more familiar with planets. How is a planet formed, what are dwarf planets and what do we know about planets outside of our solar system? We will use the telescope to look for planets visible in the night sky. Depending on the time of the year, you might catch a glimpse of the red glow of Mars, or the rings of Saturn! Module two: Let’s gravitate towards the Sun You can never look at the Sun with your naked eyes! Thankfully, we have some special equipment for you to get into ‘solar gazing’. With our solar filters, you might even be able to discover some sunspots! We will go into the details of stars, take a closer look at our star – the Sun – and even ‘scratch the surface’ of black holes. Module three: Mapping the Universe In the last module, we will make a journey through time and space. What have we learned from previous missions to space? And maybe more important, what is yet to come? How well can you see what is happening beyond the Earth’s atmosphere? Quiz four: Let’s see what we’ve learned! Time to review the knowledge you have gained with a quiz. Don’t worry, we will not make it too difficult for you… If you get most questions correct, you will receive a certificate!
We look forward to welcoming you on the course soon!
