In this course, we will learn about the night sky. We will have a look what is beyond the bounds of our atmosphere. By the time you are finished with this course you will be able to tell apart the differences in the objects in the sky, and know what they are and where they fit in in the grand scale of things. There will be four modules in the course: Module one: Let’s observe the night sky!
Alongside the resident Astronomer, we will observe the night sky over the course of an hour, we will observe it change over time and learn all about the objects that glitter the night sky. Here we will also learn about how the sky changes depending on where you are, and what makes the Maldives special for stargazing. Module two: Let’s learn more about what we saw! We will have a session indoors, where we will discuss what we saw in the session the night prior. With the resident Astronomer, we will go into deeper detail on what the celestial objects are, where they are in the cosmos and what they are made up of. Module three: Let’s look at the cosmos with a telescope! Armed with the knowledge from the previous sessions, we will use a telescope to find the objects we looked for on the first night, see what they look like, firsthand. In this session we will also learn the basics of how our knowledge has evolved over the centuries. We will also learn a little bit about some famous constellations, their origins, and the fascinating stories behind them. Module four: Let’s see what we’ve learned! Time for a review of the knowledge you have gained. Don’t worry, we will not make it too difficult for you… If you pass your test, you will receive a certificate. Also, we will show you what the next course (to reach the ‘skilled’ level) will encompass.
We look forward to welcoming you on the course soon!
