In this course we will learn about our feathered friends, birds! Learn more about the common species on and around our island, how to identify these birds, and their behaviour. We will also teach you how to use a pair of binoculars and finally go bird watching on an uninhabited island!

There will be three modules in the course, followed by an exam:

Module one: Let’s identify some birds! Have you ever seen a beautiful bird on the island, but were not able to identify it? That is going to change! Today we will learn all about the seven commonest species on and around our island, and how to recognise them. We will discuss their appearance and the sounds they make. We will also learn some basics of general bird identification, which will help you identify birds when you are back home.

Module two: Let’s understand our birds! On the second day, we will talk about the behaviour of our birds. Where do we find them? Why do we find them there? What do they eat? In this session, we will learn to understand and recognise the behaviours of the birds we find on our island, and the best way to live together with our feathered friends.

Module three: Let’s go birding... on Mendhoo Island! After learning about bird identification and behaviour, it is finally time to put our knowledge into practice. In today’s session we will be travelling to an uninhabited island, called Mendhoo, to go birding! Together we will try to find some of the species we have learned about and with a bit of luck find some more uncommon bird species!

Exam: Let’s see what we’ve learned! Time for a review of the knowledge you have gained. Don’t worry, we will not make it too difficult for you... If you pass your test, you will receive a certificate. Furthermore, we will show you what the next course (to reach the ‘skilled’ level) will encompass.

Please sign up and we look forward to welcoming you to the course soon!
